In an earlier post, I showed you some inspiring pictures of the building that got me writing The House of Bliss series.
But what do you do with a photo like this? How does this get your wheels turning? Looking at the entire building had me filling it with romantic nonsense, but when going through the place something else got my juices flowing as well – what legitimate business could my proactive heroine use to replace her shady nighttime activities?
This is where the Bed and Breakfast idea was born, this is the second floor of the old building. If you look along the right side of the picture you can see where the wall ends and then begins again. This is where the three-story, three-and-a-half story really, atrium goes through the second floor.
The pictures from the earlier post…
…are on the third floor and are what inspired the whole custom condominium for the homeowners association.
I realize these pictures are not the best in the world. The one on the right has the little fireplace which is placed between the windows. This fireplace shows up in More Bliss, Book Two in the House of Bliss series.
But back to the first picture, really what are you going to do with that long industrial hallway with the original and gorgeous moldings around the doors? Well once I got inside one of the rooms it became obvious. These rooms also have high ceilings and huge windows. They even have interior windows allowing light from the atrium. With cleaning and the right decor (the last real-life resident was the U.S. Army in WWII), these could be charming BnB suites. And that is how our leading character becomes a legitimate business owner…is this a spoiler?
Have you seen something that made you go to the lemons into lemonade mode lately?
Let me know! Thanks for reading.
