This is the inspiration for Bliss House in it’s early days, the 1890s, before it was blue. I tried to find a bigger picture, but this is what I could find.
Notice the transportation and the dirt street! The actual building is in a really rainy location – that had to be a mudbath getting in and out of the carriages and in and out of the front door.
When I visited this building I was able to get up to the roof and it looked like there had been a tower on each corner. Maybe it was just prepped so that towers could be added. I don’t know, what’s so now is that there is one tower, just as it shows in this picture.
Sometimes people (me included) forget the story is fictional. While I was inspired by this building, the Bliss House in the books is not this exact building and I’ve moved it from it’s real-life location, to the Bay Area in California, near Stanford University.
What do you see in life that inspires you? Is there a story there?
